Author Gini Graham Scott Brings Neighbors Back to the Table With Game Nights

Danville's National Night Out, August 4, 2026, the debut event for the Games Experience program.

As screen fatigue grows, author Gini Graham Scott's new Games Experience program brings live game nights to East Bay communities, starting in Danville.

We are all a little burned out on screens. Put people around a table with a few good questions and they laugh, they disagree, they actually talk to each other.”
— Gini Graham Scott, PhD, author and game designer
SAN RAMON, CA, UNITED STATES, August 12, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- At a moment when many people feel worn out by screens and short on real connection, San Ramon author and game designer Gini Graham Scott, PhD, is testing a simple idea: put people around a table, hand them a deck of conversation cards, and watch a room of strangers turn into a table full of friends. Her new Games Experience program brings live, facilitated game nights to community events across the East Bay.

The first event ran August 4 as part of Danville's annual National Night Out at the Danville Club House on Ridgeland Circle, which drew about 150 residents. A dozen of them stopped by the games table to play Brainstorm, The Great Debate, and If You Could Be or Do Anything. The response was strongly positive: every participant who filled out a feedback form said they would pay to attend a future game night, and several asked about hosting or leading events of their own. A second event, for seniors, follows on August 12 at the Belmont Center in Danville.

Scott is a prolific author and game designer and the person behind ALB Games, which publishes roughly 70 "game in a book" titles. These are card and conversation games sold as affordable paperbacks, with cards players print or cut out at home. Unlike most modern entertainment, her games are built entirely around conversation, imagination, and social questions rather than screens. Her newest title, Imagine It, is a party and conversation game in that same spirit.

The Games Experience program is testing a model in which trained facilitators host game nights in their own communities, with games that work equally well in person or online over platforms like Zoom and Google Meet. The aim is a growing network of local hosts running events that get people talking face to face again.

On her Substack newsletter, Scott writes an ongoing series on the history and changing world of games at gini.substack.com, material she is now compiling into a forthcoming book.

Early Games Experience events are being documented as case studies, with more community and senior events planned through the rest of the year.
